About the Team
The history behind the UCI track cycling team and athletes for the 2011-2012 season…
Founded in 2009, the Black Dog Professional Cycling team features three highly-awarded track cyclists specializing in several track cycling disciplines. Team Owner John Holton envisioned a cohesive unit that would not only offer the sport of cycling several outstanding representatives but also support two exceptional athletes, Ryan Sabga and Ryan Luttrell, as an elite-level Madison team. Drawing the attention of international brands like Parlee Cycles (Premier Sponsor), GU, Edge Composites and Rudy Project, the team brought home double silver medal honors at the U.S. Elite National Track Cycling Championships in October 2009 in both theTeam Pursuit and Madison. Both Sabga and Luttrell went on to compete in the World Cup events. Learn more about the Black Dog Sponsors.
For the 2010-11 season, Ryan Sabga added the team’s first elite national title and he and Ryan Luttrell took home a silver medal from the US National Track Championships. Both earned starts on the prestigious European Six Day circuit and Sabga also competed in the UCI continental road championships in the time trial and road race for Trinidad and Tobago. Between the two Ryans and Giovanni Rey, the team earned seven elite state titles in 2010.
For this season, Black Dog Professional Cycling is expanding on its success by adding two highly acclaimed women to the squad: 2007 US National Points Race Champion, Kacey Maderfield, one of the original Black Dog members, and Liz Reap Carlson, six time US National Champion in various sprint events. With the guys at the top of their game and the women doing their part to add to the team’s title haul, 2011-12 should be another great season for the team.
